The Horizontal Geothermal Probes are closed-circuit heat exchangers, arranged horizontally in the ground, made of polyethylene and require the availability of surfaces outside the building. Vertical Geothermal Probes are always closed-circuit exchangers, the most common are made of polyethylene pipes immersed in the ground up to depths that can vary from 50 to 150 m. The Coaxial Probes, another type, can be used in soils with a high water content and consist of two pipes; the internal one made of polyethylene and the external one made of stainless steel. Geothermal Heat Pumps use the energy stored underground, in fact after the first surface layers, the temperature of the ground is not affected by the climatic conditions of the surface. Vice versa, if the machine is in a hot-cold version, it transfers energy from the environment to be cooled underground. Hydrothermal Heat Pumps use groundwater as a source for thermal exchanges.
At the International English School in Padua, a major project was carried out with the installation of a building heat pump for summer heating and cooling and a geothermal field consisting of vertical probes. In the Multipurpose Structure of Portogruaro, used for its expulsion, the geothermal field is characterized by 9 geothermal probes of 100 metres vertical type. In the Municipal Library of Marostica for public use, the geothermal field is characterized by 6 geothermal probes of 100 metres vertical type, the installation of 1 heat pump inversion cycle completes the plant. The Kilometro Rosso Research Centre in Stezzano is characterized by a geothermal field composed of 12 vertical geothermal probes of 100 metres, completing the plant with the installation of 2 heat pumps with integrated free-cooling. The Chieri Industrial Plant, a private industry, is a plant designed for heating and air conditioning in the office area where the geothermal field is characterized by 30 geothermal probes of 100 metres vertical type, completing the plant the installation of 2 heat pumps with eutectic accumulations. The Eidos Chieri Geothermal Plant is a geothermal field construction with 30 vertical probes and installed power of about 230 kW in combination with geothermal storage for an available power of 400 kW.
