Virginia Cucchi - Virginia Cucchi
Born in Italy on 1992, I lived 20 years between Malaysia and Singapore. Passionate in photography, during 2009, with the support of my English professor, a South African writer, Troy Blacklaws, I realized my first photography book, ‘When the Bamboo Sings’ (ISBN 9789834438104). I obtained my master degree cum laude in Architecture in 2015 at the Politecnico di Milano, with a year of exchange at the Tsinghua University of Beijing. My final thesis, ‘The Three Gorges Dam: A damned Landscape’, was focused on the acts of visible violence on China’s landscape and its people, denounced by artists and photographers. During my studies, I interned at two international architecture offices: Libeskind’s studio in Milano and Zhu Pei’s office in Beijing. From 2014 until 2017 I have collaborated with The Plan Magazine, with the publication of written articles, video interviews and participation in architectural events. Over four years, I interviewed architectural studios in New York. Some of these interviews have been dedicated to Weiss/Manfredi, Bernard Tschumi Architects, FXCollaborative, Archi-tectonics, Ennead Architects, BIG, WORKac, Grimshaw, Rafael Viñoly Architects, De-SPEC, LTL Architects, Marc Thorpe Design & Architecture, Voorsanger Architects, George Ranalli Architect, Ten Arquitectos and SPG Architects. Part of my written works includes: Grafton Architects: Shelley McNamara [The Plan Magazine: 086], ‘Encounter with the Future: Thomas Bock’ [The Plan Magazine: 095], Marcel Wanders (online) & Matteo Thun (online).
