Restoration and Renovation in Emilia Romagna. The former barn has been transformed into a residence

In Parma, a former barn with a stable is undergoing significant restoration and restructuring by the Cortesi Architetti studio, which transforms the building into two residential units spread over three floors

From the conservative restoration and renovation of an old barn with an overhanging hayloft, two residential units are obtained, both spread over three floors and in connection with each other

Originally the building was completely exposed, so the essential requirement of the project was to ensure the legibility of the void as a qualifying element

It was also decided to create an open space for both houses, connecting the three floors in correspondence with the stairs making it possible to appreciate the articulated lift system

Inside the secondary apartment the empty space leading to the attic is connected by a stone staircase followed by an iron spiral staircase

The two residential units have the same portico, a space paved with terracotta tiles. A conservative restoration and renovation that well combines the essential requirement of architectural continuity with the current residential needs; the void is further enhanced by the important lift system
