ACTIVE SURFACES

ACTIVE SURFACES is a technology patented by Iris Ceramica Group that allows porcelain stoneware to acquire all the properties of photocatalytic materials, thanks to the application of titanium dioxide. The application of ACTIVE SURFACES technology makes the porcelain stoneware of Iris Ceramica Group the only ceramic in the world for floors and anti-pollution and bactericidal coatings ISO certified. The active substance is based on the photocatalytic reaction: in the presence of air (and consequent humidity) and light is activated a strong oxidative process that leads to the decomposition of organic and inorganic pollutants that come into contact with photocatalytic surfaces. A reaction that follows the well-known photosynthesis that degrades substances deemed harmful to man. In ACTIVE SURFACES the function of photocatalyst is carried out by Titanium dioxide (tio2) present on ceramic plates in the form of micrometric particles fixed at high temperature.

Characteristics:
Self-cleaning effect: dirt does not adhere thanks to hydrophilic properties of the photocatalytic surface, so cleaning is easier without aggressive detergents, with only water or neutral soaps. In particular in the open air, the combined effect of sunlight and rain is able to clean surfaces while maintaining the original colours and reducing the need for maintenance.
Anti-pollution efficiency: thanks to the photocatalytic process, volatile pollutants, in the presence of light or natural or artificial moisture, are degraded and rendered harmless. The anti-pollution effect has been demonstrated by specific tests carried out in the academic laboratories of the Department of Chemistry of the University of Milan.
Antibacterial efficacy: We are constantly in contact with bacteria, some of which are very dangerous to our health. ACTIVE SURFACES is 99.99% effective on all bacteria, from the most common as Escherichia Coli to the most dangerous as StaphilococcusAureusMethicillin-resistant (MRSA – antibiotic resistant).
Anti-odour efficiency: the organic odorous molecules are also degraded and their effect eliminated thanks to the photocatalytic properties of the ecoactive surfaces.

In addition to the main features listed, the antibacterial activity is also effective in the dark and with LED lights.
