Wooden house in the trees

"L'Ex of In House" by Rhinebeck, New York, is an experimental guest house developed directly from the ongoing project "Explorations of In" by Steven Holl Architects Studio since June 2014. Questioning the current clichés of architectural language and commercial practice, a series of exploratory drawings and model studies have been developed

Wooden house in the trees

The explorations of a new language, aim at the inner spatial energy, shaping the public space and the social openness, all this has been achieved thanks to the use of Cnc models such as the Triple Venn Diagram MutilationandHybrid Combinations: Tesseract within a cubic sphere.

Wooden house in the trees

One of the main aims was to preserve the natural landscape and habitats of wild animals present in the 28 acres that were to be divided into five lots of suburban houses. For this reason, the studio has thought of an " Open " architecture which gradually opened up towards the landscape, creating a sculpture as an extension of Rhinebeck's " T " art gallery

Wooden house in the trees

Thinking and meditating on the creation of something that has never been seen before, a small house of 85 square meters is built to be inhabited in the rural site of the wooded area as part of the experimental project Explorations of 'IN'. Instead of dividing the 28-acre site into five suburban plots, the lotus was left undivided as a single rural reserve

Wooden house in the trees

Instead of building today's typical "McMansion" with several thousand square meters, a single house is placed at the center of the site. A compressed shape intersected by three spherical voids, the house has a kitchen in the center and is constructed like a large room on three levels. Instead of fossil fuel, the house is heated and cooled geothermically and electricity is generated from energy produced by the sun

Wooden house in the trees

The geometries of the architecture blend with those of nature, thanks to the large openings, the analysis of volumes which contrast but are also attractive to live outside
