The interior design is characterized by three main decorative themes, distinguished by colors and materials: the oak wood of the herringbone parquet floor and of the furniture, which provides warmth and coziness; the white of the walls and ceilings makes the atmosphere pure and at the same time delicately reveals the structure of the building, thereby commemorating it; finally, the brasses and bronzes of the custom-designed furniture modernize and embellish the atmosphere
From a factory to an artist's studio-house. The materials and design of the details transform the essence of the building
In Holland, in Zaandam, a monumental industrial building becomes "Ketelhuis" (a warm house), the home-workshop of a couple of artists, thanks to the work of Modijefsky Studio in collaboration with the clients' atelier
Two sculptural staircases connect the two levels into which the large volume of the building has been divided. The workshop is on the ground floor, while on the upper floor is the exhibition space open to the public, in direct connection with the house; a fusion of functions created through the large living area which is dominated by the kitchen island made of brass and designed in every detail
While roaming inside the Ketelhuis, you will come across holes from old fireplaces transformed into portholes and old windows that are no longer usable that have been transformed into "Light-boxes"; a cast iron stove in the living room corner furnished with vintage furniture, a kayak converted into a light that is suspended upside down to illuminate the table and bronze light fittings designed by the clients' atelier
A combination of elements taken from the industrial environment and skilfully transformed into lights and decorations together with strongly characterizing pieces of art create a space that impresses and harmoniously connects the various functions it hosts
