Country house among fields and fruit trees. Stone volumes and white colour

On the outskirts of the village of Empordà, in the province of Girona, the ARQUITECTURA-G studio renovates an old country house, redesigning the volumes and spaces from the agricultural past into spaces for simple domestic use, characterized by stone and white colour

The farm renovated by ARQUITECTURA-G, which covers about 900 square metres, is built on top of the rock, with the ground floor adapting to the land on which it stands. Several extensions and variations of the volume have been made over time. The house, on three floors has many rooms, some chained together, others isolated.

The main intervention uses an existing patio on the ground floor and adds a new one. Many partitions of the house are eliminated, so that each room has a relationship with the outside, with windows and patios. The layout of the house, previously labyrinthine is significantly modified, facilitating the use of the house.

In the wall structure, the shoring of the house is done by profiling the steel that is hidden in the stone, the rhythm of the pilasters is shown indicating a rhythm that is repeated. Metallic structure and windows, doors etc are all painted in burgundy in order to identify the new pre-existing structure.

White colour and stone volumes form a neutral background and the materials play an important role in the construction of spaces. The brown tile accompanies the inhabitant everywhere. The floors are recovered. The result is a house with a dining room and rooms where family and guests can feel comfortable.
