Bureau de Change Architects reinterprets the English rural vernacular building starting with the elongated shape of two wooden chicken sheds, creating an interplay of traditional volumes that are transformed into a home

The front volume is trimmed to create an interior patio which is hidden behind the façade, while the rear volume is extended and, being of double height, creates a point of intersection between the two volumes, pushed into each other

Inside, the living spaces are arranged in a fan shape around the patio, which acts as the focal point of the home, letting in natural light, covered with glazed ceramic tiles. The architectural style evokes and reinterprets the vernacular

The house meets the principles of the passive house, with an insulated concrete formwork system that creates a thermal shell, limited openings to the south, triple-glazed windows and an excellent ventilation system

At the front the volume appears more solid and heavy, thanks to the use of a monolithic dry stone wall made by a craftsman, chosen not only for its local significance but also for its intrinsic qualities
