Communication Design in Trieste. Alternating colors for the new image of the Airport

The relaunch of Trieste airport continues through collaboration with Lombardini22 and particularly with FUD, a brand dedicated to Physical Branding and Communication Design, which had already designed the entire communication system

FUD, the Lombardini22 brand dedicated to Physical Branding and Communication Design, continues its project to relaunch Trieste Airport through a project focusing on the architectural concept of the pedestrian walkway and the new entrance.

Thirteen months after the laying of the first stone, the intermodal platform of Trieste Airport opens to the public. The new hub brings together a completely renovated terminal, a railway stop, a bus and coach bus station, a new multi-storey car park and a level one; an internal road system divided into two circuits for public and private traffic flow and the pedestrian connection between the terminal and the structures of the pole with raised walkway. A set of constructions aimed at transforming the terminal into a modern and image-oriented structure.

The pedestrian walkway made of steel and glass is characterized by an alternation of colors taken directly from the territory. The rhythm of solids and voids, of sky and earth, defines the colors and materials of the façade. The catwalk was designed by Lombardini22 starting from a modular element that takes up the symbol icon of Trieste Airport. Its manipulation and extrusion creates a module that becomes the new compositional element, contributing to the dynamism of the facade.

Together with the catwalk, the new high-impact entrance is inaugurated. A genuine chromatic accelerator, the blue that characterizes the new image of the airport and its interiors becomes a privileged vehicle for the visual message of attraction and welcome for passengers and all users of the structure.

The modernization of the terminal also involved the internal areas: from the waiting areas to the restaurants, from the departure area to the boarding gate, to the arrivals area. Aiming at simplifying the passenger experience thanks to a universal, clear and immediate language, the FUD project directs and guides passengers through effective and intuitive, as well as pleasant and contemporary communication.

The next step in the redevelopment of the hub will be the new canopy which represents the airport facade. The objective is to make the main structure of the airport iconic and easily identifiable for all passengers, maintaining a strong continuity with the different and previous phases of the redevelopment.

A project that through the simplification and promptness of communication adds value and quality to an architecture service with unique features such as those required by an airport infrastructure.
