Residential renovation in London. Seven floors to live between light and color

In the heart of Highgate Hill, London's pleasantly green neighborhood, LLI Design is renovating a seven-storey home by optimizing space layout, lighting and dynamics

LLI Design, a London-based studio, in the Highgate Hill district, is renovating a house on a seven-storey vertical floor plan, the main objective of which is to create a modern-style environment without the excesses of a cold and aseptic design

We then opt for a general redistribution of spaces that is more fluid and pragmatic, intervening on lighting and flows to create a warm and welcoming environment to live comfortably in everyday life

The large collection of vintage posters that the family wants to be able to display throughout the house becomes a key reading and "fil rouge" of the new design

To solve the problems related to the low lighting of the central staircase, the light points around it are increased and optimized, inserting a skylight and a full-height window on the third floor; a general restyling is also carried out, covering it with grey oak planks, inserting a handrail made to measure and a pillar in line with the new modern style

Among the most significant interventions of the new distribution of space, a central role is played by the move of the kitchen, originally on the second floor, and now relocated to the first floor on the back of the property overlooking the garden. The two French windows and the wall in the middle are replaced by sliding full-height windows that allow you to enjoy a direct view of the garden and to obtain an airy and bright environment for the dining room

On the second floor, instead of the kitchen, is recreated a spacious closet, a gym, and a TV area with large closets and niches for storing objects and accessories

Also on the third floor, where there is a large and comfortable living area, the entrance of natural light is increased by replacing the original French windows with full-height windows framed in wood

On the fifth floor, a uniform redistribution of space enriches the master bedroom with a luxurious bathroom and a large walk-in closet

As for the other bedrooms distributed between the fourth and sixth floors, the custom furnishings, designed and made directly by LLI Design studio, play a central role in optimizing the spaces by creating extremely personalized but connected environments

The important lighting system of the entire house is managed by a home automation station that allows, among many functions, to record the best "bright atmosphere for various uses especially of the dining room, living area and TV room. The same platform, which can be remotely managed using tablets and smartphones, controls the music system

By changing the dynamics of the rooms, LLI Design not only optimizes the space available, but completely changes the atmosphere and way of living in the home, creating an environment with a contemporary style that is at the same time colorful, lively and welcoming, where the seven floors are now connected to each other while maintaining their own unique character
