Intangible Sound, the Manifest Platform from which to observe the sea

Why are traditional sea-viewing platforms filled with numerous fences and railings which block the scenery and limit the possibility of activity? Intangible Sound opens up completely new scenarios

The design of Intangible Sound, an unconventional poster for sea observation platforms by HAS design and research, is located in Shenzhen, a typical high-density development city in contemporary China. The location, which has transformed from a small fishing village to an international city, is home to the viewing platform located on Shenchen's last natural shoreline, Xichong

Sturdy steel plates are used for the construction of the semi-arc platform in combination with a unique tensile structure. Fishing line is the main material, readily available because it is local, creating a smooth, transparent and unique space: a stage of interaction from which to observe the sea

Dunes and stones create an inland landscape capable of presenting Xichong's most significant regional features: vast mountain forests and floating coastlines. Before entering the pavilion, visitors cross fences of different heights and distances, sensing the seascape, which guards and nurtures the landscape

Diffused natural light, shade, and wind sound together provide an experience of diversity and richness of the environment. After the period of the exhibition, the client decided to maintain Intangible Sound as a permanent public seascape observation shed. This miniature architecture is an experiment that changes the short-term life cycle of the installations, truly integrating into the life of the local fishing village and continuously providing fishermen and children with opportunities for various activities
