Thermal insulation

Thermal insulation is a type of building technology which plays a very important role in a home: if optimized, it gives greater living comfort, helps to reduce polluting emissions and leads to significant energy savings. Insulating means saving energy and guaranteeing internal comfort by choosing the right material and the best technique. There are several materials that can be used for this purpose: expanded polyethylene, autoclaved aerated concrete, glass wool, up to radically eco-friendly choices such as natural cork.

Architecture and thermal insulation materials are two important elements that must be considered in the design of sustainable buildings. Proper thermal insulation is essential to ensure that the building enjoys a comfortable environment all year round, regardless of the external climatic conditions. Good thermal insulation can also significantly reduce energy losses associated with heating and cooling buildings, thus helping to keep building operating costs low.

Another advantage of good thermal insulation is that it can also help improve the quality of the air inside the building by increasing the static pressure of the air inside with respect to the outside, thus reducing the risk of infiltration of harmful dust or gasses from the external.

There are several ways to improve the thermal insulation of a building: first of all it is important to check that there are large cracks and cracks on doors and windows which could disperse heat in the middle of summer or swallow the heat produced by the heating systems in the middle of winter. If present, these slots must be sealed with insulating mats or similar materials to prevent drafts from outside.

The most common type of thermal insulation is made with insulating material such as expanded foam panels, mineralized fibers or glass fiber applied to walls, attics and roofs. Each of these has distinctive and specific characteristics that make them suitable or not according to personal needs.
