Hollywood Hills House, a home among the oak trees of the Hollywood Hills, was born out of a desire for a luxurious design packed into a modest number of square meters

Los Angeles, California. Mutuus Studio accommodates the wishes of its clients, who wanted a small footprint for their family residence, just like their loft in New York. Set on a 45% slope, Hollywood Hills House proves to be a real challenge for its design team

Inspired by the clients' trips to Ireland and countless visits to the great castles of Europe, the entrance to the house is via a wooden and steel bridge across a secret garden. Across the threshold and down the stairs, guests are welcomed into a primary living space, a tribute to the sense of arrival in a large living room

The kitchen area is made of blackened steel and walnut cabinets with brass details. The dining area consists of caramel-coloured leather chairs and Finn Juhl dining table and features a dark, circular central fireplace that acts as a subtle dividing element between the kitchen and living area

The living area is filled with eclectic artefacts including African masks, a willing Daro bronze table and a cast of a childhood bone fracture displayed like a relic. Light pours into the space through black steel Brombal windows. The farthest wall of the living area is all glass and faces south, offering a breathtaking view of Los Angeles

A showcase of experiential choreography rejects the traditional sequence of spaces, the continuous flow through the house speaks to the designer's background in dance and an innate instinct when walking through a space

A perfect fusion of two worlds, old and new, with industrial chic and old world interiors. An impressive result that looks at the tradition of the medieval Irish castle and incorporates it into a contemporary California lifestyle. A new and different twist on Case Study Houses as the house continues to further explore the ideological image of intersecting spatial realms and portrays an imposing contemporary presence atop the Hollywood Hills
