Paolo De Martin architetto


The architect Paolo De Martin graduated in architecture in Venice with a design thesis on the urban and architectural redevelopment of the Venice railway station (110/110 with honors).

From 1984 to 1988, he first collaborated with Professor Valeriano Pastor in Venice and then with various professional studios in Brunico; he participated in architecture competitions with several award-winning projects. With Professor Valeriano Pastor, he worked on the preliminary and executive project for the school in Dolo (VE), focusing particularly on the design of wooden structures and facades.

In 1990, he opened his studio in Brunico: he designed and built residential complexes for low-energy public housing, renovations of public buildings, and wooden constructions (200 housing units built). Since 1995, he has been a provincial expert in urban planning and landscape protection for the building commissions of Corvara, Egna, and Selva Gardena; he became a member of the Landscape Protection College of the Province of Bolzano and of the Order of Architects of BZ, editor of the magazine "Turris Babel." In 2002, he won the CNA "Archi legno" award with the project for the bocciodromo of Brunico, awarded as the best public wooden architecture in Trentino Alto Adige, in the public works category, and published in the most important architecture magazines in the wood and sustainable architecture sectors. In 2004, he won the 2nd prize for the new Civic Library of Brunico and designed the wooden house "Flora" for the Rubner company. With this project, he won the PRO WOOD AWARD in 2006, awarded by the European Institute of Wood in Rosenheim, as the best European architecture with low energy consumption in solid wood (certified Casa Clima A plus). Since 2004, he has been actively collaborating with Rubner and other companies for the design of wooden buildings; he is included in the public register of trusted project managers of the Province of Bolzano.

In 2005, he coordinated the seminar "Building in the Landscape" with architect Peter Zumthor, organized by the Province of Bolzano, Landscape Protection Office. In 2007, the wooden house project "Flora" was published in the ALMANAC of CASABELLA, Italian architects 2006, and in the international architecture magazine "DETAIL." Since 2006, he has been an official lecturer appointed by the Casa Clima Agency of the Province of Bolzano for courses on "Low-energy housing, constructions, and materials," "WOODEN CONSTRUCTIONS," "Design Workshop"; "Wooden extensions course." On behalf of the CasaClima Agency and other entities, he carries out training activities and scientific participation in conferences, seminars, and trade fairs at national and international levels. Since 2002, he has been an energy consultant for the CasaClima agency and provides technical consultations for designers, individuals, companies, and public entities. In 2010, he designed and built a solid wood administrative office building in L'Aquila. Since 2006, he has been a Master lecturer for the WOODEN CONSTRUCTION courses for the LIGNUS consortium, the CLIMABITA agency, and ARCA of Trentino. Since 2010, he has designed and built several public and private buildings with low energy consumption, in Italy and abroad, including the first CasaClima Gold in Sardinia (Silanus), a residential wooden building by the sea in Genoa (Gold), two residential settlements for 28 housing units for ACER Emilia Romagna in the province of Bologna (class A), a Gold-class villa in Isola della Scala (VR), a wooden hotel in Selva Gardena (CasaClima Hotel A Nature), a Gold - Nature Passive residential building in Montebelluna, and the energy renovation of the CAI alpine refuge in Kronplatz.
