These public functions are traditionally arranged next to each other around a public space, each with its own front door and its own interpretation of the transition from public to private space depending on the specific context of each function
Lendrik. A building that houses citizen services while redefining the transition between public and private space
Lendrik is a project in collaboration with the city of Brussels which includes a center for local services, a social center and a library. A building that blends its public nature with a private atmosphere which makes citizens feel welcome
Given the mixed nature of the functions, the availability of space and the existing urban layout, it was necessary to develop in height in order to accommodate all the necessary functions. A central space foyer adopts the role of the public square, acting as a filter between the public "dimension" of the adjacent street and the private interior space
The building designed by the HUB studio blends harmoniously with the surrounding buildings while maintaining its identity and reinforcing its public character. The facades are clean and rhythmic by the presence of windows and yet express a certain versatility and equality without being entirely identical
The facades facing the street and the public garden have a stronger, almost ornamental aesthetic, while those adjacent to the private gardens are simpler, almost service oriented. The left and right are more reserved. This different perception is achieved through the use of the same materials but with subtle variations in proportions and details. The result is a building that represents a fusion between the atmosphere of a village square and the intimacy of a private house
