Due to severe natural phenomena, including tropical storms, floods, landslides, every year in Vietnam there are significant damages on a global scale, leading to the displacement of more than 500 people. This hinders the development and recovery of the affected areas.
The aim of the study was to find a solution to provide housing for millions of people affected by these disasters, considering local materials, speed of implementation, and unskilled labor. This is where the project originates, which then becomes a prototype.
Using standard bamboo modules, which range from 8 to 10 cm in diameter and 3.3 to 6.6 meters in length, each house is simply assembled with bolting, binding, and then positioned. The house covering can be finished based on the local climate and regional materials (bamboo, bamboo thatch, wood fiber, coconut leaf) to create vernacular architecture.
This monolithic architecture, once stretched at its joints, is strong enough to withstand natural phenomena. Its greatest virtue is the speed of construction, 25 days. Furthermore, if you consider a mass-produced product made up of modules, the total cost of the house would amount to just $2500.
The project starts from the study of the territory proposing a solution that integrates architecture, ecological development, and stabilization of the economy. A case aimed at the local conditions but that well teaches how alternatives to contemporary constructions can be offered.
