Casa de Piedra- crafting timeless spaces where memories reside

The "Casa de Piedra" is an excellent example of how architecture can be a bridge between the past and the present, connecting not only physical space but also memories and experiences. The project goes beyond the mere function of the building; it represents a profound exploration of the tension between history and personal aspirations, skillfully balanced by sustainable architecture

Memories of the past hidden in a modern design

Located in the picturesque state of Querétaro in Mexico, "Casa de Piedra" seamlessly integrates diverse memories from the past with contemporary design. The architectural office Juan Carlos Loyo Arquitectura aimed to create a fluid space that transports us to childhood places, haciendas, courtyards, and rural homes, all while maintaining a distinctly modern perception. The result of this fusion is intended to evoke a sense of homeliness while simultaneously leaving a peculiar feeling, as if it were the memory of two different people in the same place

Functional character of undulating walls

One of the key elements of this project is its undulating walls. Not only do they impart a distinctive character to the architecture, but they also create six private patios. These patios enable all the rooms to control their level of privacy while providing cross-ventilation and a comfortable climate. The undulating walls also facilitate optimized capture of sunlight from the southern front, effectively raising the temperature inside the building

Maximizing functionality by varying wall heights

A distinctive feature of "Casa de Piedra" project is the deliberate variation in the height of its walls, corresponding to different levels of exposure or isolation required in various spaces. As one traverses the residence, the walls seemingly "grow" or "shrink," creating a dialogue between different parts of the house. This dynamic aspect of the project allows users to adjust the spatial configuration according to their preferences by opening or closing individual spaces

Optimizing library space with unusual solutions

In the public zone, the height of the walls has been doubled by employing curved volumes with pure geometry. In the library, underground shelves have been implemented, allowing for the storage of a significant book collection without sacrificing visibility to the internal courtyard and optimizing the use of natural lighting

Crafting coziness through material choices

The choice of materials is deeply rooted in creating a cozy, intimate atmosphere. The use of wood, tiles, and stone draws inspiration from the homeliness of rural homes, infusing the project with a unique character
