The use of natural materials such as stone, clay and wood is intended to create the most ecological possible habitat in the rehabilitation and expansion of "Casa Pastrana" in Mazarron, Spain, by the Pepa Diaz Arquitecta studio

In the province of Murcia, an attempt was made to recover the essence of a Mediterranean house in Levante, situated among fields and stones, without altering the landscape in which it stands. For the rehabilitated part, stone was recovered from the excavation of the expansion, while clay delivered to the area was used for the extended part

Other materials used in the project are wood used for the carpentry and the flooring made of unprocessed baked clay, contributing to the creation of a habitat that is as ecological as possible, disconnecting it from the industrial life to which the main inhabitant has always been accustomed

In summer the house does not need any air conditioning, as it is airtight from the inside and for the colder months the use of a wood-fired oven is sufficient. Ornaments and decoration are minimised, and the house gives the inhabitant back the essence of the house
