Departamento AV Apartment Design for a Young Family

Departamento AV is an interior design project of an apartment in Mexico City by ARCO Arquitectura Contemporánea for a young family. Interpenetrating volumes between common and private areas, combined with customized design, give the project a fresh and contemporary feel without sacrificing style.

An Apartment in Mexico for a Modern Family with a View

The main feature from which the project took shape is the open space that maximizes height. A contemporary and timeless atmosphere pervades this 276 m² apartment created by the ARCO Arquitectura Contemporánea team, which developed the entire architectural project considering the needs of a young family.

Common and Private Areas, Design Connections

Upon entering the apartment, one is captivated by a stunning privileged view of the city. The dining room and living room form a harmonious and welcoming common area. The space is characterized by oak wood cladding in the form of a vertical marimba (Mexican percussion instrument) which delineates the environments and their uses. Providing a unique texture to the environment, it connects and defines the common areas and private spaces. Both ends of the area are framed by white marble shelves, the same marble used to create a niche that houses the dining room cabinet. Next to it, an elegant walnut wood frame creates access to the kitchen, giving a sense of continuity and spatial rationalization

The Family Room: Sharing Family Moments in a Comfortable Environment

Neutral colors and textures dominate the environment, highlighting the grey marble floor in the common areas and the parquet that conveys warmth and intimacy in the bedrooms. The private areas consist of the master bedroom and two secondary bedrooms sharing the family room. For this family space, a large American walnut wood cabinet was designed, dynamically combining natural and lacquered finishes to frame the TV. Additionally, a natural oak wood cladding is one of the supporting walls for the corner sofa. In the master bedroom, the back wall is covered with navy blue wallpaper with bronze lines, giving the space a sober and elegant character, completing the palette of finishes selected for this environment.

Customized Furniture and Technology, Usable Design Within Reach of the Family

In the complete project, the furniture is a skillful mix of pieces specifically designed for the apartment by architects José and Bernardo Lew, and a selection of furniture from different brands, achieving a balance of styles and functionality. Technology is also part of this project, for which a Lutron lighting control system, a Sonos audio system, and motorized blinds were installed, providing maximum comfort to all members of the young family.
