An alternative to family life together with the possibility of developing one's independence and sociability. This is the role of Dozendoors, co-living in Madrid's Tetuán neighborhood, and of this new and increasingly popular way of living that appeals so much to Generation Z and beyond

Dozendoors, "dozen doors," is the result of the transformation of an early 21st-century single-family house, with five floors above ground and a basement, into a co-living designed for 12 university students, from all over the world, who will live together for a period of one year in the Spanish capital

The Dozendoors project by gon architects is an urban structure dedicated to accommodating people united by similar living conditions that foster coexistence while leaving room for the sphere of individuality. To this end, the general organization of the built volume is articulated around a staircase strategically placed in the center of the building, which not only ensures the vertical connection between floors, but also horizontally distributes and organizes both common and private spaces

For collective living in Dozendoors, a variety of spaces for sharing have been conceived, distributed throughout the building, both internally and in the outdoor terraces: the kitchen, dining room, and living room on the ground floor; the games room and laundry room in the basement; and the south-facing terraces where sunbathing with views of the Madrid skyline can be enjoyed on the fourth and fifth floors. Going up and down the stairs of the Dozendoors you pass by areas equipped with storage closets having occasion for random and unexpected encounters. The co-living common spaces are designed as indeterminate places that facilitate encounters and conversation

Private rooms, on the other hand, are all designed as variations of the same type, all the same and at the same time all different. They are the places where each student's personal worlds can evolve. They contain, in 10-12m2, all the necessary elements for hygiene (bathroom), rest (bed) and work (study area). The use of color, as in the case of the study area and bathroom, chosen according to each orientation, serves to differentiate these areas from the rest of the room and to spatially hierarchize them.
dozendoors is a residential solution that bets on the quality of which this type of living and pursues the intention of contributing to the construction of an advanced human fabric that increases cohesion between people in the neighborhood and those who reside in the co-living
