Wooden suites at the Grand Cepage Hotel are reflected in the lake for a primordial living experience

At the Eco-hotel Grand Cepage in the fishing reserve of the lake of Lionne, Avignon, there are 25 wooden suites, simple but sophisticated, floating on the water like rafts or on pilotis like stilts, evoking the primitive constructions on the lake shore

The imperative that Lavit Atelier sets itself in this uncontaminated context of luxuriant Mediterranean scrub is absolute symbiosis with the existing landscape: the architectural work of Grand Cepage blends perfectly with the lake reeds from which it takes up and optimises the elegant vertical thrust. The different densities of the vertical wooden screens running along the façades of the hut-suites, embracing and protecting the terraces resting on the water, guarantee the clients' privacy and shelter from the sun and wind

The changing seasons and the hours of the day constantly transform the relationship between the architecture of the suites and the landscape: in summer, with the vegetation in full bloom, they complement each other in a perfect camouflage; in winter, with the land and the lake under a blanket of snow, the vertical lines of the louvers are reflected in the water; Again, as the day and night change, the experience of the place, both built and natural, changes, and with the sun shining through the structure. From inside the suites one can enjoy the ever-changing play of light and shadow; at night, in the total darkness of the unspoilt environment of the reserve, the huts become lanterns radiating golden light between the wooden slats

To limit the unforeseen problems of construction on a site that is difficult to access and needs to be protected, the wooden suites of the Grand Cepage Hotel were largely prefabricated in the carpentry workshop. The components were numbered, dismantled and rebuilt on site in 3 months. Prefabrication reduced production costs and on-site costs during installation, with as little as possible impact on the landscape
