Playfully Inhabiting a Concrete Desert
The site where the LUMI project is located consists of a vast semi-built area of 1200 square meters. Clairisienne invites the Bruit du Frigo studio to imagine a design for the temporary occupation of this "concrete desert" to make it capable of hosting a wide range of activities: from workshops to events, from neighborhood scale to metropolitan scale
An emerging urban destination
Bruit du Frigo creates a generous project that plays with construction starting from the need for a modular and reversible layout that would respond to the challenges of play and relaxation. The result is LUMI: a local park inspired by construction games like Tangram and the Rubik's Cube. It was also necessary to find a strong visual identity to transform the dark image of the site and signal to the population its ongoing transformation and temporary occupation: the result is the four-handed composition between Bruit du Frigo and Line Bourdoiseau of a pop universe with a visual identity capable of enhancing the playful dimension of the project
The giant puzzle of LUMI
The game of LUMI consists of 16 geometric shapes that can be fitted together into an overall design. It can be played in two teams competing to complete the giant puzzle as quickly as possible. This idea allows the site to function on its own without any specific programming, offering playfulness and originality. The sculptural super-structure in the center of 60 square meters is complemented by a series of furnishings that bring the space to life with versatility. The project is completed by a bar with various dining and relaxation areas
LUMI today
Four years after the halt of this emblematic construction site on the perimeter of Euratlantique in Bordeaux, from a mass of cement waste, the site is becoming a place in transition, open to the public until work resumes. Here, among the structures that interact with playful colors, shapes, and volumes, capturing attention and showing outside the building what is happening inside, the association EN PLACE offers a wide variety of activities and events
