New contemporary interiors and consolidation of the ancient: Casa SAVY

A small terraced house in the historic center of Locri had been abandoned following a fire. Today it is the charming and bright Casa SAVY, characterized by contrasts between new and old in an airy and welcoming atmosphere

Reinforced concrete frame structure and stone walls

The renovation of the house is designed by the PRO.ARCH. studio and involves extensive consolidation works on the original stone perimeter walls: the only part of the building that survived the fire that caused its partial destruction and abandonment. A new reinforced concrete frame structure is placed inside the existing walls, allowing for the development of Casa SAVY

A dramatic double-height volume

The small building, squeezed between two other houses, with the recovery intervention gains light and space. In 60 square meters, the architects arrange a living room-kitchen on the ground floor, overlooking the inner courtyard, and a new second floor with two bedrooms that, not occupying the entire surface, allows for a dramatic and technically functional double-height volume. The house is completed by two full bathrooms, one on the ground floor and one in the main bedroom, a shower in the second bedroom, and a hallway with a double wardrobe

The staircase as a crossroads of materials and historical eras

The two fundamental elements of the project are the double height in the living room and the new staircase. The two-level volume acts as a lung of air and light for both the living area and one of the rooms that overlooks it with an essential glass window with black profiles. The staircase becomes the crossroads of materials and historical eras: leaning against the ancient stone wall, it approaches it bringing the new design made of colorful tiles and honey-colored wood

Light as the main character between essentiality and Mediterranean touches

Light is the other protagonist in Casa SAVY; the contribution of natural lighting is maximized by the openings in the facade and roof: thanks to the double height of the living room, sunlight enters deeply throughout the house. The artificial lighting is carefully designed to emphasize the relationship between old and new. Following the taste of the client, the style of the interior design is essential and functional with touches of color that speak of the Mediterranean
