The Mecanoo Architecten studio has brilliantly reinterpreted a classic Dutch farmhouse typology, designing a contemporary villa located near Vught. This villa, distributed in distinct volumes, revisits the traditional layout of farmhouses around a central courtyard, combining protection and openness to the surrounding landscape.

Design and distribution of volumes

The villa, one of the architecture projects by Mecanoo Architecten studio, stands out for its distribution in three distinct volumes, which evoke the atmosphere of a small village. Two of these volumes take the form of traditional barns, connected to the outside, while the third, taller one, offers a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape, contrasting with the adjacent lower buildings.

Functional and welcoming interiors

Inside the tallest volume, we find the bedrooms, crowned by a panoramic terrace. One of the barns has been designed as a living area, kitchen, and dining room, with an adjacent veranda, while the other houses a kitchen studio, ideal for seminars and culinary activities, as well as a garage, a warehouse, and a guest suite.

Materials and finishes:

The external cladding, made of dark aluminum, extends up to the roof's peak, recalling the aesthetics of iron roofs of traditional surrounding agricultural buildings. The villa's supporting structure is made of wood, while the interiors are also characterized by the use of European spruce, which conveys warmth and welcoming atmosphere thanks to its smooth and uniform texture.

Each building of the villa is designed to frame and enhance the picturesque surrounding agricultural landscapes, thus offering a perfect blend of architecture and nature.
