Located in Sargans, in the canton of St. Gallen, Switzerland, Residenz Eisenerz is situated at the crossroads of three valleys, on a fertile plateau amidst the steep peaks of the surrounding Alps

Apropos architects, the winning firm in the architectural competition for the construction of Residenz Eisenerz, was inspired by the landmarks of the surrounding landscape and the views that determined the proportions and layout of the residence.  The pinkish stone of Verrucano-Schiefer, located in the local mountains, became a reference for the materialization of the facade and the interior spaces

In terms of sustainability and ecology, a very compact enclosure characterizes the entire residence. Residenz Eisenerz is cut like a carved stone, where different surfaces of the facades are defined by unique plaster surfaces and enjoy the play of light and shadow. The color of the house changes throughout the day, from light gray at sunrise to pink at sunset

As a residence intended for rent, the interior design of the common and private areas involves the use of high-quality, durable and neutral materials in order to meet the expectations of a diverse spectrum of potential tenants. The spatial organization needed to be clear and the use of rooms variable. The staircase, terraces, and outdoor common areas are places where tenants meet, greet, and interact with each other

The focus and heart of the building is a staircase with an elevator, which is located in the center of the house. The façade is then used only by the apartments, which in turn is intended to allow for generous floor plans with multi-sided orientation of rooms and plenty of daylight and views, even from those rooms of the house often overlooked such as bathrooms and kitchens. The apartments share a similar spatial configuration: no windowless blind hallways and a direct connection to the living areas, so when you enter the apartment, views of the surrounding landscape are always guaranteed
