'Outside the Lines' at the Arcimboldi Theater. An immersive and refined place on an artist's terms

As part of the 'No Entry' initiative promoted by the theater designed by Gregotti, in which 17 architectural studios were invited to transform as many dressing rooms, DAP studio has created an enveloping space of great elegance that is ideal for the artist's concentration. The choice of warm and precious materials, scenographic modular lighting and graceful design made it possible to 'engrave a symbolic and almost sacred space' and make it unique

Conceived and realized with an approach that is neither decorative nor staged, the dressing room 16 'adopted' by the Milanese studio delicately and respectfully fits into Gregotti's strong and rigorous architecture. The result is an immersive and refined place, characterized by a wooden envelope that from the entrance walls unfolds and 'unrolls' like a soft wave on the ceiling until it covers the wall of the makeup area

Architectural spatiality as well as the preciousness of the materials and the attention to details are the keys adopted by DAP studio to give back their soul to a magic and secret place where actors, singers, dancers, musicians and performers get ready to enter the scene in a space where you enter as a person and leave as a character, through a threshold between the real world and the artistic dimension

Once through the entrance, a ribbon of wooden slats rhythmically spaced out rises up towards the ceiling, wraps around it and unfolds towards the artist's station and stretches along the makeup station. The entrance has been made three-dimensional with the creation of cabinets and containers integrated into the wall covering, as well as the technical compartments

Two brass skylights frame the sky and like natural reflectors, flood the dressing room with light and are assisted by a system of spots and LEDs which are inserted between the staves with magnets, creating a soft setting in the evening hours, which can be adjusted at the discretion of the artist who can reposition them and create different lighting scenarios through an app or remote control

The linear and unobtrusive design offers flexibility of spaces, while the essentials emerge: the round makeup mirror, the Giò Ponti armchair, the vase of flowers, the vertical wall mirror, the cozy nest. And the artist. The chromatic shade of brass is repeated in some of the furnishing details and, as a whole, warm and precious materials have been used - such as the parquet floor created for this purpose and painted black. The same black dominates evenly where there is no wood panelling, giving elegance and neutrality to all the structural parts of the dressing room and the metal of the mirror
