Comfort and privacy in a dense urban setting. Perforated metal panels clad the home

The Arthur Casas Studio renovates a house for a young couple in São Paulo by cladding it in gold metal panels with perforations based on 19th-century leaf engraving, making the volume homogeneous and ensuring maximum privacy

The existing house was incomplete and was overhauled by the Brazilian studio, which left most of the existing openings unchanged. The basement contains the TV room and garage, the ground floor the kitchen, dining room, living room and terrace, while all the bedrooms are reserved for the second floor

Thanks to the perforated metal panels that clad the house, the interior spaces are embellished with moving light points, depending on the position of the sun. In addition, the designers included a sunken courtyard to direct natural light down to the basement. The master bedroom has a large window overlooking the courtyard that is a small oasis within the city

Folding doors between the dining room, pantry and hallway make it possible to create different configurations and make the use of the house versatile. In the living room, the sliding doors enable complete integration with the courtyard. The home looks like a mysterious monolith on the street and introduces an interesting connection between privacy and social interaction
