La Mar Bella is the renovation and expansion by SUMO Arquitectes of an existing elementary school with the aim of doubling its capacity: three interconnected volumes define a complex with a total area of 5,400 square meters

La Mar Bella, built in the 1950s, is profoundly renovated and given two new elongated volumes placed in an L-shape, which define the school's open space patio
The existing building built in the 1950s has been thoroughly renovated and two new volumes have been attached, containing classrooms, the cellar, kitchen and administrative area. The third volume has four facades facing the street, facing the square and connected to the complex by a bridge over the public space
This last volume has inside it a gymnasium, locker rooms and a library. These spaces can be used by anyone when the school is closed. The different spaces are flexible and multipurpose to promote new pedagogical projects
The construction solutions are simple, durable and strong, and require very little maintenance. The materials used are environmentally friendly. The project was planned according to nZEB parameters: La Mar Bella is an energy-efficient school with a low thermal transmittance envelope and high natural ventilation performance. The energy certification of the entire complex is Class A
