Steffen Welsch Architects renovates an old house following the basic principles of Feng Shui, which naturally embody the principles of good design, such as facilitating the entry of sunlight, air and ventilation

Feng Shui has its origins in China and is a concept that aims to design and arrange buildings and their surroundings for harmony and happiness, with the idea that a building's layout, colours and materials can influence the flow of energy

On the basis of these principles, various design choices were made for the renovation of an old house, connected to the new expansion by a wooden wall at the end of the corridor, which also becomes a barrier to the street

The old and new are separated by a courtyard, which promotes lighting and ventilation. The expansion makes room for a studio and the curved wooden wall, enclosing a shop welcomes visitors upon arrival

Colours and materials are only gradually revealed. The wooden floor of the dining room continues into the adjoining lounge, providing a sense of calm. The upstairs rooms are more exposed to the sun, wind, rain and the landscape in the distance
