Spanish architecture studio MESURA designs a home in Baix Empordà, Catalonia, created through the interpretation of the local building culture, using contemporary construction techniques and aiming to create a personal feel of the place

The design choices of the home linked to the form and materiality of the project are embedded to touch the natural and surrounding environment as little as possible, while also interpreting the local building culture of the area and using local building materials: ceramics from La Bisbal and stones from the river Ter

Casa Ter is located in an area that serves as an intersection between three natural landscapes: sea, mountains and plains. The context is reflected in the architecture since the house is composed of three volumes that create three different spaces, each of which is branched towards one of the surrounding landscapes

The walls of the house are built using a mixture of concrete and stones from the local river Ter with ceramics. One of the volumes serves as a public area, the other as a private area with a series of beds and bathrooms. A different volume connects the kitchen to the public area, creating a meeting point between the two volumes: conceived as a traditional porch, which is partially inside and partially outside, it can be closed or open depending on the weather

There is an attempt to use a Mediterranean way of life by living outdoors a lot thanks to the pleasant climate that can be enjoyed throughout the year. In the house, ambiguous spaces are created, indoor and outdoor, which can be used in various ways depending on the needs of the user or the time of year. However, the house can also be completely closed off
