Lisbon House. Expansion, upgrading and optimization of the roof morphology

The two-story house located in the Restelo neighborhood of Lisbon was in dilapidated condition and had a garden and a courtyard. The architecture studio atelier cais managed to exploit the potential of the house and improve its spatiality

The main idea of the project was the upgrading and expansion of the existing structure, both in redesigning the floor plan and the rear facade, and optimizing the morphology of the roof, so as to insert a new space underneath

The internal layout has been completely restructured, both on the ground floor and on the upper floors, in order to create a new, more functional space. Thanks to the elevation of the roof and the insertion of a new room in the attic, it was possible to insert a new social space with a clear relationship with the outside, through a terrace

The topography of the courtyard has been redefined since it was initially on a much higher level than the house and difficult to use. In axis with the kitchen, an outdoor dining area has been designed. There is a small garden connected to the living room with a cistern for water, which makes it possible to freshen up in the summer months
