Maritime character for three homes in Rotterdam. "Industrial living" with views of the polder

The three houses on the polder are designed by the Denkkamer studio in the former iron and metal foundry of Egmond&Zonen in Overschie, which has been transformed into a special living environment and is loaded with maritime and industrial components with shed roofs

The total mass of the building that encloses the three dwellings is designed as a large industrial complex that transcends the scale of any single house. The shed roofs, made of profiled steel sheets, are extremely characteristic of the project

The dwellings are constructed with masonry. On the garden side and on the south side, the masonry is pixelated, while the facades towards the water and the north side are fully glazed, ensuring maximum contact with the surrounding waterways and the old polders

The interior spaces and their layout were designed based on the specific wishes of the residents without further marking the industrial character but incorporating common interior elements. Some interior elements are a continuation of the exterior, such as hot-rolled steel for the staircase, stainless steel for the countertops and concrete for the frame in the kitchen island
