Architecture in the heart of the Swiss Alps. A bridge between the DNA of the place and its future

Davide Macullo Architects designs SWISSHOUSE XXXV, a project that is part of a larger program of artistic projects set in Val Calanca, Switzerland, with the aim of creating a bridge between the DNA of a place and its future

The new housing project highlights the significance of the existing structures and seeks to dialogue with the vernacular buildings present in the core of the village by assuming their shape and size but at the same time escaping instant perception and offering continuous surprises due to its dynamism extracted from a cubic matrix

The elementary and symmetrical shape of the cube is disrupted by its spiral development making the architecture both solid, light and dynamic. When viewed from the outside, the structure gives a sense of calm and freedom. The openings are oriented in such a way that the landscape can be captured in its beauty

The openings also encourage the entry of natural light into the minimal interior, but not without emotion and character. The roof design is the result of an analysis of the surrounding environment and the different types of pitched roofs available. The double height of the space inside makes it possible to enjoy all the spatiality of the small architecture
