Psychophysical wellbeing and nature in order to make working a delight: the Author's House immersed in the forest

How much does our workplace influence the quality of what we do and the pleasure we derive from it? The Author's House is certainly a successful experiment in this sense: a mixture of natural and psychophysical well-being surrounded by greenery; a place of inspiration, reflection and contemplation

The Danish studio SLETH was commissioned by a private client to build a panoramic house immersed in a forest near Aarhus with the aim of making it his work' home: his Author's House. Thus, in a protected natural area, this dream working house was built on an existing foundation and its forms emphasize and embrace the powerful inspirational nature that surrounds it

The function as a workspace rather than a home means that the interior layout is free and spacious. In the Author's House there is a vital dialogue that speaks of mutual care and admiration between the built place and the natural environment; a harmonious atmosphere is created that makes the working situation relaxed and pleasant. All the walls are equipped with bookshelves and the doors open to allow a smooth transition between the outside and the inside

The indoor/outdoor relationship is also expressed in the choice of materials: the three main ones are stone, wood and copper - each having a special connection to the surrounding landscape.
The stone floor is made with the idea of creating a carpet that transitions between indoors and outdoors and with its texture and colors it echoes the forest floor that runs through the house. The solid Douglas wood planks are used as the predominant material inside the house: in the kitchen, in the ceilings, the stairs and windows, the walls and furniture; it generates a warm and comfortable interior

Externally, the dark reddish-brown copper facade blends in with the copper-coloured forest and beech trees of the landscape; the patina of time gradually makes Author's House greener as the copper oxidises
