Rock embedded lodge. A cantilevered volume floats in the heart of the forest

Refuge des hauters located in the Canadian forest of Mont-Tremblant is the project of Natalie Dionne architecture studio with a remarkable structural complexity, consisting of a dark wood volume that projects into the void for a length of nine meters

The volume of the shelter is surrounded by countless trees and is 21 meters long. It projects onto a sloping terrain for 9 meters and seems to defy the laws of gravity, so much so that when you walk inside near the windows, it seems like you are in a tree house

The structural complexity of the building also lies in the embedding of its base into the slope of the land, embedded in the rock on three sides. The basement houses a garage, completely hidden in the landscape, a family room and a workshop

The house has a living area of 240sqm and 80sqm of service and garage. The structure is made of glued laminated wood and the roof with its well-designed technical composition and planned orientation is beneficial to lush crops. The owners have planted a vegetable garden with local plants
