The façade was built inside the school itself. The ruby white pigment of the façade is similar to the rudimentary nature of the students' artwork before final finishing, while the staggered pattern is reminiscent of shelves containing ceramic objects

The McGee Art Pavilion is an expansion of the School of Art and Design at the New York State College of Ceramics by ikon.5 architects featuring a ceramic façade of unglazed terracotta tubes and a sun and rain screen
The pavilion is cantilevered over a glass wall, which showcases the students' work and makes the pavilion itself look like a work of ceramic art. The exhibition space is large and flexible enough to display contemporary artwork. A mezzanine gallery overlooks the exhibition hall to provide a bird's eye view
Beneath the main exhibition hall are art studios, multimedia, art history classrooms and support spaces, as well as an immersive gallery where art forms such as video and audio can be enjoyed to a greater extent
