"Airship landing and nature charging"
The owner of Flying House is a young pilot: the house for his family landed on the site in the newly developing city of Gyeongseo-dong near Incheon Airport, South Korea
The designers of Flying House, Iroje Khm Architects, correlate traditional Korean architectural features with the pilot's habits, while building the house's identity. The roof surface at the top of the courtyard and the movement of the house metaphorically symbolize the flight
The spatial and landscape element typical of Korean architecture, the curtain wall, the garden and the pavilion, is transformed into the main space of the house. The roof is reforested: when people walk from the courtyard to the roof, a passageway to the sloping roof garden is created which allows for walking paths, enabling coexistence with nature and the formation of a hilly landscape
