In 2018 Peter Pichler Architecture won an invitation-only competition to replace an existing old structure with a new villa on top of the "Kastelaz" vineyard owned by a well-known wine family in the area. The site is located in the valleys of typical mountainous terrain and is surrounded by the vineyard, a forest, and nearby Lake Kaltern, with a 360-degree view of the landscape

The new villa Kastelaz Hof is located in South Tyrol's beautiful alpine landscape of Tramin, renowned for the production of Gewürztraminer wine, and its geometries are inspired by and evolve from the vineyards and conditions of the project site
The architecture of the Kastelaz Hof villa creates a smooth and harmonious transition with the landscape and is barely perceptible from the nearby village. The ribbon structure that emerges from the natural landscape creates an inner courtyard that offers protection from the strong wind from Lake Garda. The exterior materiality mimics the existing retaining walls of the surrounding vineyards, made of Chalkstone, reflecting their own texture and color
The structure is divided into three 'wings' that enhance the light and connections between interior and exterior. An inner courtyard connects all spaces, blending seamlessly into nature. Extensive glass facades are designed to frame and highlight the surroundings and bring the landscape into the interior spaces while maintaining interior privacy. The interiors feature local materials that create a warm yet simple and minimal atmosphere. Materials such as concrete and wood, are used to create continuity between the house and the outdoors
