In the historic center of the city of Varna, Bulgaria, the KR Apartments building embodies the concept of creating contemporary and functional housing with an elegant and simple design that discreetly fits the environment

Bordering the Sea Garden and the Black Sea the KR Apartments residential building is located on a small lot on a quiet street with minimal slope. The building is terraced toward the east facade, where the reconstruction of the historic annex building is planned

The KR is a very "quiet" building. Its simple volume and minimal use of material diversity shows the intent of the STARH studio designers to totally respect its surroundings. The façade materials compose a smooth surface without intrusive details and ornamentation. The spatial-volumetric organization of the building is distributed over seven floors with a complicated orthogonal shape that is the result of urban planning restrictions

The shuffling of openings and opaque parts on the facades is the logical result of the orientation of the facades: The geometric patterns develop from the north facade facing the street, where the openings are the smallest and narrowest and the facade is flat. The voids on the west facade widen and small balconies emerge, creating a more complex facade. To the south, the glazing is amplified providing a rich inflow of light, the balconies become larger with views toward the Sea Garden and the Black Sea
