Casa Fly, a house inspired by tradition to experience extraordinary memories

Learning from the local architecture, and from the technique of 'Pedra en sec' declared in 2018 Intangible Cultural Heritage Of Humanity by UNESCO, Casa Fly uses the elements of Majorcan tradition by rethinking them through contemporary architecture and marrying them to simple concepts of energy efficiency based on natural ventilation and the heat storage properties of its massive walls

The design of BEEF ARCHITEKTI  for Casa Fly reflects the respect and knowledge made, step by step,by the architects of the beautiful island of Mallorca, full of amazing natural landscapes and picturesque stone towns that are full of history and tradition.
It does so through the use of traditional techniques and materials such as stone quarried from a local quarry used for the facades in a design that harkens back to the dry-stone compositions of fence or retaining walls.
In addition to offering a typical vernacular aesthetic, the massive stone facade keeps the house cool during the summer months and has great potential in storing heat in winter

Drawing on local millennial techniques that were used to best coexist with the Mediterranean climate, the house offers a range of natural shading and ventilation systems.
First, windows are recessed deeply into the structure's openings so that their concrete thresholds are amply shaded. Folding wooden shutters are another natural prevention from heat. They mirror the facades of traditional Mallorcan houses with their narrowly spaced vetric slats, creating a soft shading on the interior that brings back the traditional local atmosphere. The spaces between the wooden slats allow air circulation even when the shutters are closed. The numerous openings on each floor of the house allow fresh air to enter and flow through the rooms to the skylights on the roof, thus providing natural ventilation both horizontally and vertically

The design of Casa Fly is planned in harmony with local architecture using traditional materials, techniques and local principles. The stone facade also flows seamlessly into the interior of the space and is combined with the "Estuco de cal" lime plaster. The moodboard of materials chosen manifests the architects' intention to maintain a neutral background against which the custom-designed furniture stands out: wood, local stone, and concrete are the dominant materials.
Each material has a specific role in the design; the wood of the "Lamelas" adjacent to the staircase creates a vertical axis, the "skeleton" of the architecture. A group of handmade ceramic pendant lights give a unique handcrafted touch above the dining table.
Finally, a bronze statue of an abstract angel overlooks the panorama from the entrance

Due to the dynamic nature of the landscape surrounding Casa Fly, along with its special location, it was possible to create several striking views at each level of the house. On the ground floor one is visually connected with the infinite blue of the sea.
From the bedrooms on the upper floor, at night you can admire the beauty of the illuminated city that can be seen framed between the sloping terrain and the pine tree tops.
The ultimate view can be enjoyed from the infinity pool, where the water in the pool visually blends in a continuum with the sea to the horizon.
The architecture of Casa Fly, between tradition and beauty, allows its inhabitants to experience extraordinary moments
