CD8: an urban refuge in the heart of Mexico City's Chinatown

A regeneration project that redefines the relationship between public space and intimacy, with accents of color and artisanal details inspired by Mexican culture.

A discreet building that embraces change

In the heart of Mexico City's Chinatown, the CD8 project by Boué Arquitectos gracefully integrates into the urban fabric. Facing the street, it features wrought-iron balconies, vegetation, and details that engage with neighboring facades, maintaining rhythm and proportions. At first glance, the building doesn't promise anything extraordinary — and that's where the project's intelligence shines: transforming the unassuming into architectural value through subtraction.

An interior that protects, inspires, and tells a story

The interior opens up like an urban refuge. On the ground floor, a talavera wall, a fountain, and a patio evoke Mexican culture through the pink color, a recurring element that serves as the emotional thread of the project. The core of the vertical circulation is shielded by light screens that ensure privacy between the units, each measuring approximately 35 m² and including a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom.

Color and vegetation as narrative tools

The designer chose to reserve the task of telling a more vibrant story to the common areas: here, pink is not just decoration, but a poetic gesture. Corridors, lobbies, and stairs light up with color, while the vegetation—constantly present at every level—plays a fundamental role in defining the daily experience. The roof garden, equipped with a barbecue area, relaxation areas, and a TV room, becomes a space suspended between sky and city, ideal for contemplation.

Regenerate without shouting: a lesson in measure

This project, more than other architecture projects, demonstrates how it is possible to intervene in the built environment without noise, through a project that works on perceptual thresholds, chromatic accents, and spatial relationships. A silent architecture, yet capable of generating new meanings and urban relationships. An invitation to reread the existing with sensitivity and vision, restoring value and contemporaneity to it.
