The location
Hotel Plesnik overlooks what many consider one of the most beautiful glacial valleys in Europe. The breathtaking panorama of this natural wonder has motivated investment in the renovation of the hotel’s wellness center. Much of the space of the existing wellness center was originally occupied by a small organically shaped swimming pool that opened onto a sun terrace, directly in front of the building
Interplay of volumes between old and new
The architects from the ENOTA studio, to recover the space needed for the new functions of the wellness center, replaced the existing pool with a large circular jacuzzi, while a part of the structure of the old pool was used to create a sunken circular relaxation area in the floor, with a large central fireplace. The sun terrace has been expanded and equipped with a pool featuring natural filtration through aquatic plants, which, with its reflection, amplifies the surrounding beauty
Contrasting organic and linear shapes
The new pool is designed with clean, linear shapes as a continuation of the building, contrasting with the landscape's forms. However, this architectural play brings a contemplative element that evokes the circular shape of the indoor relaxation area and disrupts the perception of the constructed spaces: a rest area with a ring of fire opens absurdly dry amidst the square waters of the pool. From here, guests can be enchanted by the endless dialogue between the elements
Distribution and materials of the Wellness Plesnik
The new wellness center of the hotel has been entirely built with local materials. The curvilinear internal walls were a necessary trick to transform the existing structure, which was markedly clumsy and heterogeneous. The result is a fluid space with a relaxed arrangement of rooms that hides all irregularities and seems to end in the valley itself. The internal walls, covered with pebbles, also overflow outside, optically dividing the sun terrace into three functionally different parts. The facade is completely glazed, replacing the previous arched windows, enhancing the connection between the interior and exterior and reducing its impact on the landscape, despite the actual expansion of the wellness center
