A shelter immersed in greenery on the outskirts of Mexico City, where natural materials, play of light, and pure volumes give life to a house that interacts with the surrounding landscape.
Encinos House is located in a private residential complex on the outskirts of Mexico City. The project, designed by Ricardo Yslas Gámez Arquitectos, aims to create a livable environment immersed in vegetation, where nature interacts with architecture. Inside, elegant and welcoming spaces stand out for the use of exposed and natural materials, enhanced by natural light and the harmonious integration of furnishings.
The layout of the spaces is structured on two main levels: the living area on the ground floor and the sleeping area on the upper floor. Both revolve around a central courtyard dominated by an imposing exposed concrete cube framing a magnolia tree, flooded with zenithal light. At the end of the courtyard, a dramatic inverted pyramid houses the flame of a fireplace, serving as a connecting element between the living room, dining room, and courtyard, discreetly separating them while maintaining visual fluidity.
Runners and patio are enriched by a wooden pergola that creates a fascinating play of shadows during the day. The house is developed through two L-shaped volumes, connected by two suspended walkways: one crosses a garden of ferns, the other crosses over a water mirror from which a tree emerges. These green spaces allow for natural cross ventilation and offer suggestive views, making Encinos House a perfect example of architectural projects capable of enhancing the relationship with the landscape.
Wood, stone slabs, and exposed concrete with a wood-like texture define the material character of the house. The combination of these elements creates continuous contrasts of light and shadow, giving the spaces an intimate and welcoming atmosphere, in perfect harmony with the surrounding greenery of the residence.
