Family House Bellver Mas Mateu, the archetypal mountain house

In a plot of land that benefits from its proximity to the city's shops and restaurants, while also giving the feeling of being immersed in nature, the Family House Bellver Mas Mateu makes the most of its orientations to bring light and warmth to the interiors and offers the sensation of living in a traditional mountain house revolutionized by modern construction techniques

Enjoying the connection with the outside

The Family House Bellver Mas Mateu is one of the architecture projects of 2023 by the Taller SAU studio. Located in the Spanish mountain town of Bellver de Cerdanya, this architecture optimizes the slopes and space of the 470 sqm plot with a building index of 30%. The result is a 360 sqm house with most of the rooms arranged on the ground floor, allowing for maximum connection with the outside

The distribution of the spaces

In the basement, which is practically accessed without ramps thanks to the natural slope of the lot, you will find the parking and the spa. On the ground floor of the Bellver Mas Mateu, the kitchen and the dining room, as well as the living room, open to the southwest allowing them to be flooded with sunlight. In the upper levels, first floor and attic, there is a study facing north and two bedrooms with two bathrooms

The wooden and concrete structure on the facade frees the interiors

The slate pitched roof of the building clad in stone and wood immediately evokes the archetypal image of a mountain house. With a contemporary architectural gesture, a volume is subtracted from the main one, creating a private garden at the heart of the dwelling. Modern technology has allowed to free the interiors from structural clutter: the load-bearing profiles are made of wood and, placed on the facade, outline its texture; the concrete compression layer allows the wooden beams to work only in tension defining a remarkable structural span of 6.3 m
