Rich wooden texture and triangular prism shape for a family home

The Japanese studio aoyagi design designs, in a peripheral residential area, a house for a couple and their child, with a triangular shape, as a response to the external wind pressure, which also characterizes the project.

Triangular Shape

Among the architecture projects of the aoyagi design studio, this work deals with the triangular shape. The triangular prism is made up of a framework of CLT panels, each of which is 90 mm thick. The rich wood texture makes internal finishes unnecessary, as well as the use of insulation due to the significant thickness of the panels.

Everything leads back to the triangle

The first floor is the heart of the house, where all the functions of daily life take place, unlike the attic which does not have a fixed function. The smooth surfaces, in addition to hiding the structure, emphasize the triangular shape.

Lights and Shadows

The contrast between the first and second floors is remarkable: while the first is flooded with natural light, the attic, with a height of 7 meters, is shrouded in shadow. In the atrium, the darkness of the attic extends down to the ground floor, blending with the natural light: a fusion of lights and shadows that blurs boundaries and expands the space.
