Where a drop of water begins its long journey to the sea, a new platform has been built on the Schnalstal glacier.  In order to narrate the fascinating history of this place, noa* studio has come up with an extraordinary design: a viewing platform made of corten steel that incorporates the existing summit cross and offers visitors a new mountain experience

There is something sublime about this special place on the highest part of the Val Senales glacier ridge, the borderline between Italy and Austria. The astonishing view of such an enchanting area, full of snow-capped peaks that are equally sought after by hikers and skiers, creates a suspension of time and leads to a complete immersion in nature and a pristine panorama of steep, rocky slopes, wind and weather

Characterized by an organic architectural form that reflects the natural topography of the site, the platform is built with a platform composed of grids supported by thin beams and surrounded around the entire perimeter by vertical corten steel slabs. The arrangement of the vertical elements at the level of the parapet is in line with the slightly rounded outline of the structure

The resulting effect is magical: as you turn your gaze, the images give way to new perspectives, inspiring the observer to discover ever-changing perspectives. This dynamic stimulates curiosity and provides a sensory experience that stops time for a moment and is more satisfying than any other souvenir

And speaking of time: a geometrically defined slit in the corrugated form directs the eye to the fascinating site where Ötzi the Iceman was found. This element is also made of corten steel and, like the slabs of the parapet is exposed to the effects of the weather, which has changed its colour from dark brown to grey and finally to black, making it become one with its surroundings

Leaning against the ground only at the points strictly necessary, the structure stands out in the landscape like a suspended construction, from which to embrace the mountains with your gaze and inebriate yourself with the scent of freedom. The platform ends with a glass parapet suspended in the void, an invitation to abandon all thoughts and immerse yourself in an adrenaline-filled experience
