SWISSHOUSE XXXVI stands in Muttenz is a historic municipality on the outskirts of the city of Basel.
The new building, which fits into the general framework of the neighborhood characterized by houses with pitched roofs, appears as a volume enclosed by concrete blades

From a distance, the building designed by Davide Macullo Architects appears to be an interpretation of traditional architecture, but it changes appearance as you approach. When one stands in front of SWISSHOUSE XXXVI, one does not recognize the volume as seen from afar: a composition of concrete blades that regulates the relationship between interior and exterior through studied orientations of the material wings that privilege the most beautiful views and respect for neighborhood privacy

The interior space design of SWISSHOUSE XXXVI is characterized by a triple height: from the living room on the ground floor, the full height of the building can be perceived.
The volume of the rooms on the second floor, as well as those on the second floor, shape the void in triple height. The functions within the house are used as sculptural design elements

The building is divided into two main bodies: the protruding volume to the south allows the protection of the view from the outside and offers the possibility of taking advantage of a terrace on the second floor. The fragmentation of the total volume reduces the mass of the building toward the garden, and ensures that the presence of the new building is perceived more lightly.
The elongation of the concrete blades outward, beyond the glazing, gives a sense of visual breadth, promoting the perception of larger spaces, even and especially in bedrooms with smaller volumes

A direct consequence of the design principle was the choice of building material: raw concrete.  This plays with the contrast between the material's heaviness and its use in floating blades that seemingly have no support.
In contrast to the hardness of the exterior envelope, the interior environment is extremely bright and warm, welcoming
