The Mushroom: a wooden house that belongs to the forest

Immersed in the pine forest of Jiangxi, China, "The Mushroom" is a house with a poetic circular shape that seems to emerge from the forest itself like a living organism

Nature and design integration

ZJJZ Atelier is known for its architectural projects with organic and visionary shapes, and the house The Mushroom is an example of the approach adopted by the studio of integration between nature and design. Two essential volumes make up "the mushroom", a cylinder topped by a cone, resting on a elevated steel structure above ground level, ensuring minimal impact on the forest, which over time, will fill this gap

An architecture that creates the perception of infinite space

The cylindrical base of The Mushroom contains the room overlooking the forest through a panoramic ribbon window, allowing for a constant sensation of immersion in nature. A loft is dedicated to space for children, equipped with tiny ladders. From the inside, the cone of the roof is a smooth white surface projecting towards the rounded apex in a perception of infinite space

Synthesis between openness and privacy

An essential parallelepiped encloses the service functions: the bathroom and the storage space. Here too, thanks to the window cut out next to the monolithic bathtub, the pine forest is an integral part of the internal spatial experience. The orientation of the opening is studied in such a way as to avoid the external path leading to the house, thus ensuring privacy

Wood and concrete finishes to interact with the vegetable and mineral realms

In the vestibule, a circular skylight offers the constant changing of external light contributing to the poetic nature of the architecture. Outside, the wooden skin of the roof of The Mushroom is ready to mature and change with time and humidity, just like a living organism in the forest. The cylindrical base connects to the mineral world with its grainy concrete finish
