Super Adobe method for the construction of the Rong Cultural Center. In harmony with the land and hands-on design in Iran

ZAV Architects, which is in charge of designing the Rong Cultural Center, activates a collaborative process with the community before proposing any type of architecture. For the designers, it is crucial that Rong has a calculated presence on the island, paying attention to social and environmental sustainability, so multidisciplinary workshops and brainstorming with local people are organized.A first spontaneous result is a temporary community center, where the process of gathering and participation begins, endearing the population to the project and its very meaning

ZAV Architects then study the geomorphology of the island leading them then to choose an "earth effect" as the finish of the center and a shape reminiscent of a hilly terrain. In order to build such a natural form in harmony with the island, the team concluded that Nader Khalili's earthen construction system and "Super Adobe" method could be appropriate. In its implementation, the sandbags technology adopted was combined with the concrete-covered steel structure

The Rong Cultural Center includes a 45-square-meter tourist information office and cafeteria, as well as a bicycle rental and 80 square meters of a kind of stage. This platform can host cultural activities, events, and ceremonies that catalyze interaction between locals and tourists and ultimately results in an urban space on which people can stroll

The presence of The Rong Cultural Center creates pride in the island's residents, as well as being highly valued for the activities it offers. Rong has provided Hormoz with a flexible public space: the Café is a break space for tourists as well as locals and workers. The steps play an important role for musical/ cultural/ environmental events . Rong's building is sustainable and recyclable, quick and easy to build, so its model can be replicated again
