The Monsoon House, designed by Taliesyn - Design & Architettura, sits in a picturesque location, caressed by the lush rice paddies swaying on the horizon in the backwaters of the state of Kerala, southern India. An extroverted approach to the architectural structure of the dwelling facilitates a conversation between the built volume and the verdant landscape that embraces the house. An "extroverted" design allows the material part of the building to rest gently against the light facades. The residence is designed to create a series of spaces filled with natural light, taking advantage of the building's orientation
The Monsoon House in Thrissur, India. A theatrical connection between space and time
A sprawling residence that seamlessly amalgamates tradition, luxury and family warmth. The Monsoon House honors the Eastern architectural heritage, keeps traditional craftsmanship alive by weaving it into its spaces, and gives its inhabitants comfort and affluence while evoking a family atmosphere
Monsoon House embodies a minimally invasive and simplified form of architecture that integrates materials and vernacular methodologies with mainstream design. Its design identity is rooted in Indian influences, with timeless motifs and material interplay that recall Kerala's traditional heritage houses. The layout emphasizes free-flowing spaces, shared family areas, and the artful and unobtrusive inclusion of service areas. Uninterrupted dialogue with nature is a design focus for both clients and architects
An extensive program revolves around a central courtyard that becomes the heart of the house, with living spaces designed around it, divided over two floors. Natural vistas have been framed by large openings, thus integrating the living spaces with the surrounding greenery. Walls stop before connecting with structural horizons, forming gaps in the architectural envelope that facilitate natural ventilation
Monsoon House includes four private suites for family members and shared family spaces such as a home theater, gymnasium, indoor pool, and various lounges. There is a continuous sense of interaction between floors through the inclusion of balconies, verandas, terraces and picturesque gardens on all levels. The palette of materials on the canvas of The Monsoon House is a mix of bold woven carpets sporting floral prints, jewel-toned upholstery, and handcrafted, custom-made furnishings
Marble and a myriad of stones are used to create a rich textured look and an environment that creates an immersive space. The homogeneous use of Tobacco marble, Snake Like marble, and mosaic punctuate the expansive surfaces of the residence. The ancient craft of inlay has been sprinkled on the house's walls, floors, and even ceilings
